Pratyusha Banerjee Suicide Case: SC Refuses to Cancel Rahul Raj’s Anticipatory Bail
The Supreme Court on Monday denied the to cancel anticipatory bail to actor Rahul Raj Singh, accused of abetting the alleged suicide by Baalika Vadhu star Pratyusha Banerjee
The apex court, comprising Justice PC Ghosh and Justice Amitava Roy, dismissed the plea of Soma Banerjee as withdrawn as a bench did not accept the plea that he should be charged for murder.
When the court was urged that only custodial interrogation can establish the charge of murder, the bench, not impressed by the plea, asked if Maharashtra police has filed any application challenging the grant of anticipatory bail.
The court dismissed the plea by Soma Banerjee as the bench was told by her council that the Maharashtra police has not moved any application contesting grant of anticipatory bail to Rahul Raj Singh by the state High Court.
The SC also told the parents’ of the deceased star that preliminary investigation points to a case of abetment to suicide.
“The investigation is still on,” the judges said, allowing the parents to withdraw the appeal. Pratyusha’s family says that “inexplicable injury marks” on her body indicate it was not a suicide but murder.
In her appeal before the apex court, Pratyusha’s mother alleged that police did not purposely arrest him for over a week, giving him time to approach the HC.
