Coastal Villagers of Umargam Taluka Meets to Oppose Nargol Port Project
On Sunday evening a small-time meeting of limited crowd of coastal villagers of Umargam taluka was held at Maroli. in presence of Maroli gram panchayat sarpanch
Rajesh Keni, Machhi-Mangela community leaders and Nargol based veteran Parsi KK Mistry and others were present in meeting to discuss upcoming Nargol port development project.
Parsi veteran KK Mistry appealed villagers in this meeting to oppose the project. He said port development would offer excellent prices of land but once the land is sold, what about the life ahead? What about the survival of next generation?
Shri Mistry, he had been captain of ship in the past. He said that hill of Sarigam-Bhilad area will be cut to obtain soil that required for construction of jetty and bet at projected Nargol port.
Naran Keni, the Mangela community activist said the port project would damage fishing activities. Arjun Machhi another activist from this community give his opinion that only fishing port must be permitted at Nargol.
A decision was taken to hold another such gathering at Maroli gram panchayat on next Sunday. oppose the port project during public hearing scheduled to take place on January 13 at Tadgam.
