Gujarat University’s 39 colleges shifted in Sardar Patel Uni.
The Gujarat government in its recent decision shifted 39 colleges that were under Gujarat University to Sardar Patel University(SPU). These 39 colleges are located in Kheda and Anand districts that are geographically closer to Sardar Patel University. Sardar Patel University in central Gujarat has now 129 colleges covering 70 km area and over 80,000 students.
Sardar Patel University had made representation before the state government for this shifting, in response to which the state government had given approval and passed a bill in this regard.
Earlier the principals and college administrative staff had to go to the Gujarat University in Ahmedabad for university related works, but now they will go to nearby Sardar Patel University in Vallabhvidyanagar which will make procedures faster and economical.
Gujarat University received 44 applications for new colleges. After eight years, Gujarat University has decided to approve new colleges and had recently invited the applications for the same.
The applications include two for arts, 12 for commerce and 30 for science streams. To Gujarat University’s surprise, more applications for new colleges have come for science in comparison to commerce and arts.
