Vadodara: 2 Policemen from Pune and a Gangster Injured in Shootout

VADODARA: Two policemen from Maharashtra's Pune crime branch and a gangster were injured in cross-firing in the narrow lanes of Nehru Bhavan near Kirti Sthambh late on Wednesday night police said today.

The shootout happened in the exercise to nab a criminal Sagar Rajput wanted in several crimes including murder in Maharashtra.

The crime branch team from Pune had come in the city to nab Sagar Rajput, a member of Gajanan Marne gang (of Pune), who is wanted in a murder and several other crimes in Maharashtra.

Members of police team were dressed in plain clothes last night around 10 PM zeroed-in on Rajput who was riding a scooter behind Nehru Bhavan here.

As per police, this was followed by a shootout between police team and Rajput that was continued for 20 minutes and around 12 rounds were fired by both the sides.

One of the policemen received injury in chest while the other hurt his leg, while Rajput received injuries on his leg. He jumped a wall of a residential locality and hid behind it.

After residents of the locality informed police about Rajput, hiding behind the wall, they nabbed him with the help of local police.

City Police Commissioner E Radhakrishnan along with other officials rushed to the spot.

A senior police official said, "We have been trying to locate Rajput's wife and his other contacts in the city and weapons used by him,"

An investigation is underway in the matter he added.
